The healthy difference between electronic and traditional cigarettes

Fighting addictions is not really a child’s play. This is because it becomes harder to fight off the addiction especially when you become aware of the ill effects or suffer from them. Cigarettes are probably the easiest thing to get addicted and perhaps the hardest addiction to come over. However, if you are amongst the ones, who really want to fight off smoking, there is always help at hand. The latest to join the wagon is an electronic cigarette. These E-Cigarettes emit electronic smoke to help quit cigarettes and are a much healthier option as compared to traditional cigarettes. Although these e-cigarettes do emit nicotine vapor, it is devoid of any harmful components, present in regular cigarettes, which harm the smoker. E-cigarettes are slowly gaining popularity since they satisfy the tobacco cravings that hardcore smoker generally face while trying to quit their addiction. Moreover, they are available in a variety of flavors so that you can smoke healthily with a difference!

7 Facts You Should Know About Trans-fat

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or at the bottom of the sea for the last decade then you know that trans-fat is not good for your body or your overall health. Just in case you actually did just emerge from under a rock or swam up from the depths of the sea, here are 7 facts you should know about trans-fat.

1. Those obnoxious, tiny, hard-to-read nutrition labels found on almost every type of food packaging aren’t always telling the truth about trans-fat. The Food and Drug Administration made it mandatory that all food packaging list the amount of trans-fat contained in the food. But, it also stated that if the trans-fat content was less than 0.5 grams, the content amount can be listed as zero.

2. Consumers can determine if a food item contains trans-fat in spite of this misleading labeling policy. If a nutrition label has the words hydrated, partially-hydrated or shortening in it, the food item contains trans-fat, and should be left on the shelf.

3. Don’t let the fact that there is no % of daily intake for trans-fat on those nutrition labels make you think it’s ok to consume them. The FDA simply caved into the food manufacturer’s pressure, and chose not to put a safe percentage value on trans-fat. Just remember, trans-fats are not good for you in any amounts, and should be avoided entirely.

4. Every item in Special K’s health and weight loss food line contains trans-fats. That’s right. The protein snack and meal bars, the cereal bars and all the other products all contain trans-fats. Interestingly, their original Special K cereal contains no trans-fat at all. The Special K line of weight loss and health foods may have some benefits, but the absence of trans-fats isn’t one of them.

5. Consuming trans-fats will raise the body’s bad cholesterol levels (LDL), and lower the good cholesterol levels (HDL). As such, consuming trans-fats greatly increases your chance of developing heart disease which can lead to strokes and heart attacks that could result in death. Trans-fats have also been associated with the development of type 2 diabetes, another life-threatening physical condition.

6. Trans-fats are found in many fried and baked foods such as doughnuts, French fries, pastries, pizza dough, crackers and margarine even though the manufacturer’s labels say differently. Remember to always look for those tell-tale words, hydrated, partially-hydrated and shortening when reading food labels.

7. As surprising as it may be, this list includes something positive to say about trans-fats. Amazingly, the amount of trans-fats being put into our food has declined by an astonishing fifty percent since 2005. Apparently, many people and business have heard how bad trans-fats are for our health and well-being, and they are doing their part to eradicate them from out food chain.

Although, small amount of naturally occurring trans-fats can be found in some meats and some dairy products the positive or negative health effects of these fats has not been determined.

Eating Raw food is a brilliant way to stay warm in the winter

I know it sounds crazy but hear me out. The average diet consists of processed and over cooked food. In this food there is very little in the way of nutrients and vitamins. This makes the body work very hard at digesting it and gets very little in return. The lack of live food in a diet can be a major contributing factor to poor circulation. Good circulation keeps the blood flowing to all parts of the body. This makes you warm. So if raw food contains more nutrients and vitamins than cooked food, which it does, then it stands to reason that eating a diet that contains more raw food will give the body more of what it needs to provide better circulation. Better circulation leads to feeling warmer. I know its contra-intuitive, eating cold to stay warm! But it is true. In the winter, especially in the UK and northern American continent, the temptation to eat ‘comfort’ food when cold is overwhelming. I know because I used to do it all winter long. But now I have a ‘raw food winter’, I feel and look so much healthier. I am warmer and more energetic. I started off this year with a raw food detox diet that lasted a month and after that I started slowly replacing the cooked foods – that I loved – with raw ones that I now love more than the cooked food. I had to really change my psychology surrounding food to accept this change but it was so worth it. Now, nearly a year later I look back at that raw food detox dietand am so glad I made the break and did it. I look forward to a warm winter of health and vibrancy – no colds for me! My friends say I look younger and I feel great.
